Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park lies in the northern part of Uganda covering an area of 3,840 square kilometers (1,482 square miles). The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile River, which plunges 45 meters (141 feet) through a narrow, 7 meter (23 foot), gorge creating the dramatic Murchison Falls. The wide range of flora creates a beautiful environment for nature walks, especially the walk to the top of these stunning falls. This particular stretch of river provides one of Uganda’s most spectacular locations for wildlife. This was Uganda’s first wildlife conservation area and it remains its largest. Its habitat supports 76 mammal species, including the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, in addition to elephants, buffalo, various antelope, and 451 bird species.

Within the park, Budongo Forest provides the unique opportunity to trek with chimpanzees, spot over 360 species of birds, and enjoy 290 different species of butterfly.
